Update 27 August 2021

Senior SRC 2022

Dear Parents and Caregivers

In week 7 of remote learning, we have had some positive news on several fronts and now have a road map in terms of students returning to face-to-face learning. In addition, we have more details for our Year 12 students and their families in regard to the Higher Certificate Exams.

Road map for face-to-face learning

Following the announcement from the Premier and the Minister of Education this morning the current information regarding students returning to school is outlined below:

  • From Monday, 25 October, select cohorts under stay-at -home rules will return to face-to-face learning under COVID-safe settings. Students in Year 12 will have full-time access to the school campus.
  • HSC exams will be delayed until 9 November with a revised timetable and guidelines for a COVID-safe HSC to be released by NESA in mid-September.
  • From Monday, 1 November students in Year 11 will return to school.
  • From Monday, 8 November, students in Years 7, 8, 9, 10 will return to school.

We will continue to keep you updated with specific details following advice from the Department of Education and NSW Health. We are looking forward to the safe return of both students and staff and encourage students to continue to engage with their learning from home.

Meet a Matilda – An Afternoon with Ellie Carpenter

We were fortunate to have the opportunity to have a Q & A with Ellie Carpenter, Matilda’s star and recent recipient of the PFA’s Women’s Footballer of the Year and Women’s Young Footballer of the Year.  With over 280 participants joining in the Q & A were able to gain a greater insight into the life of a professional footballer and listen to advice about overcoming setbacks to achieve success. A massive thank you to Ellie for volunteering her time and answering so many students’ questions, to the coordinated efforts of our PD/H/ PE staff for making the event possible and Paris Alcorn, our school captain, for her superb role as Master of Ceremonies.

SRC Elections

Voting for members of the Student Representative Council has been taking place this week. The process to elect our senior leaders (Year 12 2022) has been completed. We would like to commend all students who applied as they demonstrated leadership qualities and a commitment to uphold our CARE values. The following students were successful in being voted as our 2022 SRC leaders and we are certain they will be outstanding representatives for their year group and our school.

  • Phoebe Dunn
  • Jessica Comber
  • Olivia Hall
  • Jenna Searle
  • Olivia Willis
  • Desharn Dzeparoski
  • Max Dobson
  • Max Harwood
  • Bailey Pawson
  • Jack Williams

Wear it Purple Day

The wellbeing initiative, Wear It Purple, with the theme of Start the Conversation and Keep it Going to promote equality in our community was recognised today. Participation from students and staff generated a kaleidoscope of colour in the form of videos and photos of make it/ bake it / wear it purple that we look forward to sharing with our community next week.

SRE

During lockdown TJHS has been unable to provide scripture for those interested students. Online Scripture lessons are available for students: https://thinkfaith.com.au/

There are six lessons available, all using the 'Nearpod' platform. The link to the first lesson is here: https://app.nearpod.com/presentation?pin=FYAV6

Wishing all our families the best of health and I hope the recent information about a return to school is welcomed news.

Yours sincerely

NICOLE WASER, Relieving Principal
