Students don't have to be school captains or house captains to be considered leaders. We encourage our students to be leaders in the classroom and playground, through their support for other students, or their involvement in academic, sporting, cultural or community events and projects.
Listening to the voice of our students is a fundamental component of our school's success. We at The Jannali High School strive to empower our students by creating an atmosphere of encouragement and support in and out of the classroom.
Our success in this endeavour is seen in the leadership of our school captains and Student Representative Council (SRC). Their sense of community and school pride is evident in their initiation of school projects and in fundraising for worthwhile charities. Each event is promoted and organised by student committees.
The introduction of school Prefects and Year 11 Senior Leaders in 2015 has provided additional formal leadership opportunities for many students.
This initiative, together with an increase in student representation in the SRC, now provides a total of 44 formal leadership roles.
Our students' leadership qualities are developed and supported through the following programs:
- the Peer Support Program supports our Year 7 students' transition to high school and fosters the caring nature of our students
- a comprehensive Merit System, awarding Attainment, Achievement, Distinction and Excellence certificates recognises students' achievements
- additional awards on our weekly assemblies celebrate outstanding citizenship and educational and sporting endeavour
