Attendance Matters

Regular attendance is essential for student success. Being at school every day helps students build important skills, stay connected with their peers and teachers, and achieve their learning goals. When students attend school consistently, they are more likely to thrive academically and socially. Link to DoE attendance matters.

Absence from school

Absence from school

If your child is absent from school, please the office with the reason by either emailing the school, entering the reason through the Sentral Parent Portal, or replying to the text message you receive. This helps us keep accurate attendance records and ensures your child’s safety.

Lateness to school

If your child arrives late to school, they must report to the front office. A parent or carer can provide an explanation by sending the student with a note, entering the reason through the Sentral Parent Portal, or emailing the reason to the school. This helps us maintain accurate attendance record.

Early leave requests

If your child needs to leave school early, please notify the school in advance by sending a note, using the Sentral Parent Portal, or emailing the school with the reason and expected time of departure. When arriving to collect your child, please report to the front office to sign them out. Alternatively, parents/carers are welcome to come to the office to complete an early leave form.

Please note that on Thursdays, early leave notes must be submitted before 9:00 am. Requests made after 9:00 am will require approval from a Deputy Principal.

Extended leave requests

If your child will be absent from school for an extended period, please notify the school in advance by providing written notice with the reason and dates of the leave. Extended leave requires approval, and depending on the number of school days missed, additional documentation may need to be completed. Please discuss this with the school office.

Attendance and absences

Attendance and absences

Students must attend school regularly so they can achieve their educational best and increase their career and life options.

In NSW, all children from the age of 6 are legally required to attend school or be  registered for home schooling  through the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA). All students must complete Year 10, or its equivalent.

Young people below the age of 17 who have completed Year 10 must be:

  • in school, or registered for home schooling
  • in approved education or training, such as a traineeship, apprenticeship or TAFE
  • in full-time paid employment (average 25 hours a week)
  • in a combination of work, education and/or training (average of 25 hours a week combined).

Students 17 years and over who are enrolled in school must attend school regularly to meet HSC course requirements.

As a parent or carer, you are responsible for ensuring your child attends school every day when they are of compulsory school age. You must explain all absences to the school within 7 days.
