Continuation of Learning - Term 3 Week 1 2021

As we commence Term 3, the school in line with NSW Health and the Department of Education, will be heading into online learning for the remainder of Week 1. This will require students to continue with their learning from home. All Google Classrooms have been updated with learning activities for your child to complete for the remainder of this week. I would encourage any student who is having difficulty related to their classwork/activities to reach out to their teacher through this platform. As a useful strategy, we would support students following their usual timetable to complete their work.

Our Wellbeing Team, through our Year Adviser Google Classrooms, have sent out a short survey to all students in support of their mental health. It will provide information regarding where further support for our students may be required and as such, I would be encouraging all students to participate in completing this short survey.

Additionally, the school executive in consultation with all teachers, are putting in place plans for the expected extension of this online learning phase. As we move closer to the end of this week, we will update students and parents.

Our school is still open for those students whose parents/carers are essential workers and as such, appropriate supervision will be provided. Students are to report to the School Library upon arrival. A reminder that if students do come on site, that they must wear a mask.

Year 12

The latest news from NESA is that all Year 12 students will continue working towards their HSC. To support Year 12, the school has made the decision to move the Trial HSC period from Weeks 3-4 to Weeks 5-6. This will provide the necessary time for students and staff to adequately prepare for these exams. It is also hoped that by adjusting these exams, that the school will have returned to a higher level of normality and therefore these exams will be able to run without disruption. This timetable will be provided to Year 12 over the coming weeks. Additionally, for students requiring access to school facilities in support of their completion of major works, please contact the classroom teacher, via Google Classrooms, to discuss this possibility.

Year 12 teachers may be accessing students via Teams or Zoom in support of their learning. These scheduled meetings will occur during their normal timetabled lessons. I would encourage Year 12 to maintain contact with their teachers through their Google Classrooms.

Communication

Our usual channels of communication will continue as if we were at school, that is parents can call our Administration Office on 9521 2805. Please be mindful that we will be running with a skeleton staff, at least for this first week. Alternatively, parents can email the school at jannali-h.school@det.nsw.edu.au and the email will be directed to the most suitable person.

As in 2020, we have set up through the school’s Student Wellbeing Team, a Student Services Hotline for parents, carers and students. The service will provide extra assistance for students who are finding their workload challenging or are unable to contact their mainstream teacher via the Google Classroom platform. The phone service will allow you to contact a Learning and Support Officer who will assist with any concerns relating to the online learning process. To access this service simply ring the school number and they will re-direct your request to a support staff member.

Updates

Communication from the school will continue as regularly as needed to ensure our families are kept up-to-date as we manage this situation in support of our students’ learning and wellbeing. These updates will be seen via:

·         The school website

·         Facebook

·         Sentral Parent Portal

·         Email direct to families

For additional support, I would encourage parents and students to access:

·         The NSW Department of Education COVID - 19 advice

·         NESA
