Community Update 8 October 2021

Parents/Caregivers and Students

This week has been another example of the ever-changing situation in our community regarding the existing stay at home Public Health Orders.  You would all be aware of the renewed roadmap for the return of teachers and students to face-to-face teaching and learning.  The renewed dates for the return of our staff and students to Level 3 Plus COVID operations are:

  • 18 October:  Year 12 (as well as department preschools, Kindergarten and Year 1)
  • 25 October:  all remaining Year groups

As per the updated HSC Advice that was released this week, we are offering Year 12 students the opportunity to re-connect with peers and teachers through next week starting Monday, 11 October.  Year 12 will be able to come on-site from 1:30pm – 3:00pm each afternoon (except Thursday) to meet and work in small groups of no more than 5 students, supervised by teachers of Year 12.  Students will be invited into school in Roll Call groups with three Roll Calls in each day over the course of the week.  There was a Year 12 Teams Meeting today to explain the model which is completely voluntary although students who choose to be involved are expected to be punctual, stay for the duration of their session and follow COVID protocols and behaviour expectations.  Mr Warwick has posted information on the Year 12 Student Advisor Google Classroom.

All students will continue working and submitting classwork through their respective Google Classrooms as per the Term 4 Continuation of Learning Programs.

The department’s Roadmap to Return Guidelines for Families addresses how the staged return to school will work, creating a safe learning environment and responding to COVID-19 cases.

For families who are continuing to learn from home, the learning from home page has a wide range of curriculum-based activities to further support your child’s learning, if needed.

Thank you again for your understanding and support during what is going to be both an exciting, but also an anxious time over the coming Term.

Please take some time to check out our wellbeing resources for students and families. You’ll find useful tools for mental health and Term 4 preparation. Please do not hesitate to reach out if we can do anything to help you and your children to prepare for the return to face-to-face learning or if you have any concerns about the return to school.

All staff at The Jannali High School are looking forward to returning to the classroom with our students over the coming weeks.

Yours sincerely

Rick Coleman, Principal
